What is Google Sitelink?
Sitelinks are those links shown on SERP (Search Engine Result Page) which are basically meant to help the user to navigate the website easily. Google algorithm analyze the link structure of the website and create shortcuts that help users to navigate the website more easily and find more information quickly that they are looking for.
The Six links under eMarket education along with the “More results from emarketeducation.in” link are referred as “Sitelinks”. The main aim of Google sitelinks is to help users to get information more easily without wasting time. Earlier Google Search console had the option to remove URLs in the sitelinks list. But in 2016 on Google+, Google silently publicized that they are going to take out an almost 9 years longstanding Google Search Console feature which was useful to remove sitelinks from displaying in Google search.
Google said they are removing the feature to “simplify things.” Google said, “[O]ur algorithms have gotten much better at finding, creating and showing relevant sitelinks, and so we feel it’s time to simplify things.” Google added:
We only show Google Sitelinks for results when we think they’ll be useful to the user. If the structure of your site doesn’t allow our algorithms to find good sitelinks, or we don’t think that the Google Sitelinks for your site are relevant for the user’s query, we won’t show them. This process is completely automated. Sitelinks have evolved into being based on traditional web ranking, so the way to influence them is the same as other web pages.
So what can Google Webmaster do about Google Sitelinks they don’t want to show up?
- If you want to remove page or pages from search engine result page completely, use a “noindex” robots Meta tag on that page.
Can I change the Google Sitelinks?
Google gives you a very little control over how these results appear! Google shows only those sitelinks in SERP results when they think that information will be useful to the user. For this, there is an algorithm which helps Google to decide which one will appear on Search Result Page or not at all.
But there are things through which we can improve the chances of preferred Google Sitelinks in Search Results;
- Create an XML sitemap and submit it to Search Engines
XML sitemap is a list of every page on your website’s server. Sitemap makes easier for search engines to crawl and index your site’s content easily.
- Make sure that your website has a clear and logical navigation.
- Allow Google crawlers to index important pages and use Google Search console to render pages properly
- Use informative and concise internal links
- Use anchor text and alt text, and avoid repetition
- Include only your most important categories in the main menu
- Use relevant and descriptive Meta descriptions
- Always stay away from the duplicate content
- Never use worthless, unrelated and unhelpful thin content on your website
- Always focus on your website’s speed and page load times
